Many people don’t understand Holistic Therapy, let alone the benefits it can bring.
In the case of skincare, clients are often led to believe that it means using organic and natural skincare, applying expensive creams etc. They aren’t taught that this type of treatment only treats the external issues and often what is going off inside their body is ignored.
A holistic approach to skincare means nurturing the skin from the inside and understanding that the health of our skin depends on many factors; lifestyle choices, diet, emotional, mental and environmental stress.
My blog talks about the benefits of being a Holistic Therapist, for you individually as well as your business.
Why become a Holistic Therapist?
Firstly, it will open up a world of opportunities for you. Let me explain…
Have you ever experienced the calming nature of an Indian head massage? Or perhaps you know first hand the benefits of Reiki?
You can use the skills you gain to help your clients feel these benefits for themselves and promote healing, improve their health and boost their well-being.
Practicing these therapies can give you flexibility. You can use them as a side job, to increase your earnings, or eventually become a full-time therapist. If you are already in industry but don’t offer these kind of treatments, it can really boost your revenue.
The nitty gritty
The beauty here is that this can work for you despite your experience and your current employment situation. It can be done either with an employed or un-employed status, giving you the freedom to work around your current commitments.
You can also earn as much, or as little, as you like. You can be your own boss, set your own hours and work when you want to.
However, it is not all sunshine a roses. Depending on the treatments you train for, being a therapist can be emotionally and physically draining. You also need to factor in the extra jobs that need doing between seeing clients; setting up the space, admin, washing, marketing etc.
If you were planning to do this as a full time job, you need to be aware that building a client base can be time consuming, you’ll need patience and determination to make this work for you.
Be part of a community to surround yourself with likeminded people.
How to become a holistic therapist?
Firstly you need to study and gain qualifications in your chosen field. There are many available to you. For example:
- Hopi Ear Candles
- Indian Head Massage
These are just a few of the options available to you. Once you have decided on the topic you would like to practice, you should make sure the course you choose is accredited. If you choose one that isn’t, you will not be able to practice what you’ve learned and ultimately, you won’t make any money from it.
Where can you train?
All of LA Training Academy courses are ABT and CPD accredited so you can be proud that of your qualification knowing it will be respected within the industry.
Our training courses are run at our well equipped and easily accessible beauty school located in Sheffield, just off Junction31 of the M1.
We provide everything you need to ensure you leave the course equipped with the knowledge and practical experience to start practicing your new discipline right away.
In addition to learning the practical and theory elements, we will provide you with access to high quality training materials online, to allow you to begin learning straightaway.
Should you need any support later down the line we are only a phone call away!
What to do once you’re qualified
You might find that at the beginning you want work in a spa, hotel or clinic, as these jobs can be great to gain experience when you’re starting out. If this is the path you wish to take, you will learn a lot and gain invaluable experience without having to worry about running your own business.
However, if you feel as though you don’t want to work for anyone else, you want that freedom and flexibility that comes with working for yourself then you will need to build a reliable client base.
At first you may be able to get by through word of mouth, or friends and family but this will only take you so far. You will need to get to work on marketing, which isn’t as scary as it sounds.
You need to sell yourself and your business, let the world know who you are, what it is you can offer and what makes you unique.
If you’re unsure where to start, I can help. If you struggle with social media, getting your prices right, or knowing what your business needs lets have a chat.
There are so many modules available to you, all aimed at helping you have the business you always thought you would have; learn how to price your treatments and build your confidence.
Becoming a successful holistic therapist is a process, it doesn’t happen overnight. Getting qualified is just the first step. It takes time to build your business and develop your skills. The more you practice, the better therapist you will become. It’s about growing all the time. Growing your business and growing yourself as a therapist.
Lots of love
